Ukrainian rapeseed prices stay flat despite softer MATIF and weaker EU imports. Overview of current EUR prices, fundamentals, Black Sea risks and 3‑day outlook.

Ukrainian rapeseed prices are stable this week despite softer Euronext quotes and weaker EU import demand, keeping a wide but steady discount between FCA Ukraine and FOB EU benchmarks. Black Sea logistics risks and firm domestic crush interest are offsetting seasonal harvest pressure, limiting downside for the Ukrainian market. Rapeseed trading in Ukraine is currently dominated by flat bids and cautious seller behaviour. FCA values around key Ukrainian hubs are unchanged week on week, even as Paris rapeseed futures and indicative FOB/DAP values in the EU have slipped in recent sessions. This reflects a market where export flows are constrained by logistics and EU demand softness, while local crushers and some EU buyers still need nearby coverage. Weather across central Ukraine is mostly favourable for late fieldwork and oilseed logistics, so price direction in the short term will hinge more on external markets and freight risks than on crop conditions.

Front MATIF/Euronext rapeseed futures have eased in recent sessions, with indicative settlement around the mid‑540s to 550 EUR/t on August 26–27, pressured by harvest progress in the EU and a broadly comfortable global oilseed balance.

Supply & Demand

Ukraine enters the 2026/27 season with a moderately larger rapeseed crop and higher beginning stocks versus last year, providing solid export and crush availability, although these structural balances are not new to the market. At the same time, recent data show EU imports of Ukrainian rapeseed and soybeans have dropped sharply year on year, signalling weaker EU pull and more competition from other origins such as Canada and Australia.

Black Sea logistics remain a key constraint: shipping bottlenecks and ongoing security risks in the region are still limiting Ukraine’s ability to fully utilise its export potential and are contributing to wider basis levels between inland FCA Ukraine and EU benchmarks. This combination of solid domestic supply, constrained export capacity and softer EU demand helps explain why Ukrainian physical prices are steady rather than following MATIF lower in the very short term.

Fundamentals & Weather

Structurally, the global rapeseed balance for 2026/27 remains relatively well supplied, with modest production growth expected in major exporters including Ukraine, Canada and the EU, while Australia is seen smaller. This caps upside on the futures side, but the comfort is uneven, and importers still value diversified Black Sea supply when logistics allow.

For central Ukraine (including Kyiv region), the official three‑day forecast points to predominantly dry or only locally showery conditions, with mild temperatures in the low‑ to mid‑20s °C and no severe weather risk. This is broadly supportive for ongoing farm work, late deliveries and storage operations, and does not pose any immediate threat to the rapeseed supply outlook.

Short-Term Outlook & Trading Ideas

  • Producers in Ukraine: With FCA Kyiv and Odesa rapeseed prices holding steady while MATIF has eased, near‑term downside from local fundamentals looks limited, but any further drop in Paris futures could start to weigh on bids. Consider incremental sales on modest rallies linked to Black Sea risk spikes, while avoiding over‑selling if logistics windows remain uncertain.
  • Crushers in Ukraine: Stable farmgate prices versus softer EU benchmarks keep local margins relatively attractive. Use current flat pricing to secure coverage for Q4, but keep some flexibility in case EU import demand weakens further and inland prices need to adjust lower.
  • EU buyers: The discount of Ukrainian FCA rapeseed to FOB EU offers remains significant but is partly eaten up by freight, insurance and risk premia. Opportunistic spot or short‑haul purchases from western Ukraine may be attractive if logistics corridors remain open, but avoid heavy forward exposure until there is more clarity on export routes.

3‑Day Price Direction (EUR-based, directional)

  • Ukraine – Kyiv, FCA: ~450 EUR/t; bias: sideways over the next 3 days, with only minor moves expected in line with MATIF.
  • Ukraine – Odesa, FCA: ~460 EUR/t; bias: sideways to slightly softer if seaborne logistics headlines improve and basis narrows.
  • EU – Paris-area, FOB / MATIF-linked: mid‑540s to mid‑550s EUR/t range implied; bias: slightly softer as harvest pressure and comfortable global fundamentals persist absent new Black Sea disruptions.
